Co-living, what is it ?

If I tell you “Friends” with Rachel, Chandler …
We all think of those tenants in the same building.
Each one had his own “home”, and little by little, these tenants started to share convivial moments until friendship and even more… Here is an image of co-living inspired by the cult series, Friends. Co-living is much more than a home. It’s about pleasant places to live, for a generation in search of freedom, conviviality, without commitment. More precisely, private flats are located in living spaces with common areas to promote conviviality.

Co-living spaces are therefore targeted at young working people who are increasingly mobile and want to change their living space easily.

The main target of the co-living offer is, therefore :
young active people in a life transition situation for stays of a few days, a few months or even a few years.

Brief : onboarding

Imagine the onboarding of the web app of the servicial and community platform “The co-living MyVillage”.

Problem Statement

How to become the essential platform for co-livers and visitors to take advantage of free/paid services and to exchange within the MyVillage community.

1. Research

We made a market research based on benchmark and then on inspirations four our onboarding.

1.1 Benchmark

We have selected four co-living competitor :

1.2 Inspirations

We selected six onboarding inspirations sources, and it was very difficult to choose :

1.3 Onboarding concept

2. Define

2.1 Our persona

Among three proposed personas, we chose Lou, whom we decided to call Celeste.

Let’s discover Celeste, our green corporate!

2.2 Our value proposition

After a team brainstorming, we decided to create the best universe for Celeste ;)

It’s the end of the world. Céleste, a young ecological woman, lands on a new planet. An extra-terrestrial, Wiky, presents himself to her like a hair on the saucer. He announces that he is her digital companion and guides her to board MyPlanet before joining all the Wikyers. To find out more about Celeste’s personality, Wiky challenges her with short and offbeat questions For example on a few themes: OUTDOORS , to determine if Celeste is sociable. It’s the end of the world.
Celeste, a young ecological woman, lands on a new planet.
An extra-terrestrial, Wiky, presents himself to her like a hair on the saucer.
He announces that he is her digital companion and guides her to board MyPlanet before joining all the Wikyers.

To find out more about Celeste’s personality, Wiky challenges her with short and offbeat questions.
For example, on a few themes:

Outdoors, to determine if Celeste is sociable.
Example of questions:
“A meteor shower will soon collide with the Earth. You have 10 hours to live…
Would you rather …
- hang out with friends
or
- chill solo on Netflix?”

Wiky will be able to determine its profile on 4 criteria :
- her curiosity towards the others
- her preferences of exit
- whether she is introverted or extroverted
- whether she is more of an event organizer or a public participant.

He will also try to determine her dominant interests as well as the services that are important to her.

From there, Celeste will have unlocked a first level.
She will be assigned a number of stars, the internal currency of Wikyers. Depending on her seniority and her involvement in MyPlanet: she will earn more and more stars that she can use in the MyPlanet community against services.

2.3 Ideation

  • Site Map

We used the crazy 8 method for our brainstorming, and each one had 8 ideas. Before voting, we noticed that we can group some ideas in a same theme.

Here ourt Team Milka, doing brainstorming on our future MyPlanet Web App …

From it, we organized our web app “tree structure”.

  • Sketch the 1st MPV : Lo-Fi prototype

From this Site Map, we sketched our WebApp … to help Celeste in her onboarding in MyPlanet Co-living.

We made the user flow of our persona Celeste to use our web app with the happy path.

3. Prototype & User-test

3.1 Context

We present you our campus, My Planet, a co-living near Toulouse Aerospace District.

Celeste has a budget of 890€/month allocated to her flat, included services.

She chose a room 750€/month, with bathroom, and she customised her room before arriving.

The challenge for MyPlanet is oriented Business objective
# Consume services for better profitability

4. Hi-Fi

Thanks to all the team, and to our best designer Anais Hamel , https://www.linkedin.com/in/ana%C3%AFs-hamel-5877a9a9/, we designed our Hi-Fi :)

This is by testing that we learn how to improve our solution… sometimes, some things, features, details, transitions, some mistakes escape us, but they seem more obvious when users tell us about them…

Learn by testing and doing is the conclusion to our challenge.

I hope that I have succeeded in bringing you into our universe and that the onboarding has been pleasant and useful to all of you, dear celestine.

Hope you enjoyed this post. For my part, I had a lot of fun in this challenge, and I loved working on the concept approach with my team MILKA !!!
Creativity and solve a problem were a good combination to share passion and design UI/UX. Please feel free to comment, or if you have any questions, I'll get back to you. Thank you, Zora.
